Liverpool CSD Conducts Parent Re-Opening Survey

Friday, July 17, 2020

Dear Liverpool Central School District Parents and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the first few weeks of summer. Earlier this week, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Education Department unveiled important information regarding the possibility of reopening schools this fall.

While an official decision from the governor won’t be announced until the week of August 1, he did provide school districts with a formula, much like the one used to reopen businesses and services across the state, to help us determine if schools are ready to reopen.

In order for students and staff to return to our Liverpool school buildings in September, the Central New York region must remain in Phase Four of the state’s reopening plan. In addition, the average daily COVID-19 infection rate must be five percent or lower over a 14-day period.

If COVID-19 cases spike, and a region reaches an average daily COVID-19 infection rate greater than nine percent (over a 7-day period), schools will be closed once again.

The Liverpool Central School District Reopening Task Force is hard at work creating a reopening plan that must be submitted to the state by July 31. The district anticipates submitting three separate plans to the State Education Department - a full return to school with social distancing, a hybrid combination of a return to school AND distance learning, and distance learning only.

Once finalized, the district will share its reopening plans with parents, guardians and staff (no later than July 31).

As part of the planning process, the district would like to gather crucial feedback from parents and guardians. When you get a moment, could you please fill out a short survey by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GCDVBPB. If you are unable to fill out the survey online, please contact your child’s school to participate in the survey by phone.

We will continue to provide you with updates as more information is available.

Sincerely,

Dr, Mark F. Potter
Superintendent of Schools
