LHS Senior Named National Merit Finalist
Friday, March 3, 2017
Liverpool High School Executive Principal Douglas Lawrence recently announced that LHS senior Laurel White has been named a finalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
White is one of 15,000 students from across the United States who advanced to Finalist standing. Winners of Merit Scholarships will be chosen from this group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.
White was named a semifinalist earlier this school year after being one of the highest scoring entrants on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 1.5 million students from more than 22,000 high schools in the United States took the test, according to the National Merit Scholarship Program Web site.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a privately financed academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSATs and by meeting published entry/participation requirements.
