LHS Girls Volleyball Team Honors Late Teaching Assistant
Wednesday, October 24, 2018
Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse are rivals on the court, but the teams recently joined forces to honor the memory of Chestnut Hill Middle teaching assistant Cathy Nappa.
During the LHS Girls Varsity Volleyball game on October 5, the teams held a fund-raiser for TEEN MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) which provides a supportive and non-judgmental environment where teen mothers can come together with others who are in a similar life situation. Nappa, who passed away in August, was an advocate for this group.
Fans attending the game were asked to bring donations – such as diapers, baby wipes, snacks and baby clothes - to benefit the group. The LHS team also wore TEEN MOPS shirts the featured the name MAMACATT on the back.
The outpouring of love and support for Nappa was evident by the number of people who attended the game and the donations received. The team was able to collect enough items to fill the group’s near empty supply room.
On Monday, October 15, the LHS Girls Varsity Volleyball Team presented TEEN MOPS coordinator Jen Scholz and some of the group’s families with the collected items along with more than $300 in cash donations.
